The School

We are learning to write a memoir inspired  by James K Baxter. The School

The School
The school was usual enough;
It had a Teacher, a playground, a field, pool and a shed I never go in. me and my friends did what crazy kids do. Dodge balls, swam, ran like crazy, madly doing school  work and  read interesting books. Do nothing important.

Summer poem

                       Summer

Summer racing in with
Boiling hot weather
Splashing water prancing out of the pool
Grass dying from blazing heat
On a bright blue muscular day

Duffy theatre

            Moment in time   Duffy theatre

Duffy chose 8 kids to go up on stage. I excitedly put up my hand up. Next minute in up and inside the game.  Duffy handed us each a magic block. { the block wasn't actually magic} Duffy gave us all a block and we tried to spell INVENTED.  When Duffy left... The puzzler came and swung us around and mucked up the word. It looked pretty fun but she didn't spin me around. Duffy got back and the word was scrambled. He told us if we remember where you were standing. We put the blocks down and went back to where we were sitting

Gillian Lee

Gillian Lee strives to get to the summit of Mount Everest.

Gillian Lee was a mountaineer from Australia. In May 2019 Gill Lee was striving to get to the summit of Mount Everest without oxygen. He was climbing on the North side on the Tibet Route because of the human traffic jam of 200 to 300 climbers  on the other  route.

At 7600 m Gillian Lee started coughing constantly. Then his body shut down. His sherpas dragged  him back to their tent. To warm Gill up the guides put him in a sleeping bag with lots of hot water bottles. If the guides left him up in the death zone he was going to die.

They turned a sleeping mat into a sled to get Gill down the mountain. At 6000m the sherpas met a group of Chinese rope fixers who helped them bring him down to base camp. They tied him to a yak for a 6 hour ride. From there he had a 20 minute ride to Kathmandu Hospital by helicopter.

Gill's mother raced to the hospital from Australia. Mrs Lee was VERY furious. Gillian Lees mother  thought  he was very  selfish  because he put other lives at risk.

Will he climb Everest again?

speech

                   Topic
What is so important about NZ.

                     Introduction
Kia ora. what makes us the best country in the world? Here is what I think about Aotearoa.
                                Writing
                               Population

Back in 2017, the population rating was around 4.8 million people living in NZ compared to the United Kingdom who have 66 million people.  I think I would prefer to live in New Zealand as we have a lot more open spaces and places to walk, swim and have fun.

This also means that New Zealand produces fewer waste products like rubbish and plastic.

                              Water and lakes
In our country, we have the least amount of plastic in the water. But how much is in it and how much will be in other countries.

Well in 2010 there was about 4.8 to 12.7million tons of plastic in our oceans from people who lived close to the coasts of 192 countries.   Wow, that is heaps!!!

In New Zealand we have made an effort in shops and supermarkets to not use plastic bags to carry our food and goods to help the environment, which hopefully means less plastic in our oceans and rubbish dumps.

I have been lucky enough to have traveled to a number of countries around the world, from personal experience I can say that New Zealand is clean and green and I always look forward to coming home to our wide open spaces.

Farming
We are lucky in New Zealand that we grow most of our own food and don’t have to buy it from other countries.  In NZ we have over 55 thousand farms.  On these farms, there are 27 million sheep and 3.5 million cows.
Some NZ farms are creating wetlands on their properties to help the water life like tuna and birds.

These are just some of the things that make NZ the best country in the world.

I am proud to be a kiwi because we like to work hard to keep our country clean, even though we have a lot more to learn about keeping our environment safe.

                                   People
In my opinion, my friends and family are kind, loving and thoughtful and care about New Zealand.

EMR

Dear Isabel,

Thank you for using your time to take us around Whatuwhiwhi. We really appreciate you taking us out to see what a marine reserve is even though it was not quite a marine reserve.

The highlight of my day was diving below the surface to see all the little creatures down deep. All the seaweed crowding me was making me feel anxious because I was scared that fish would jump out at me. When  I was in the middle of the sea, I enjoyed looking at all the pretty fish swimming around me.

Thanks again for spending your time with us.

Yours sincerely,
Aria

Wow Sentence.

W.A.L.T.  up skill our sentences. We started off with a group of people then tried ourselves. Here is my example.

The girl jumped into the field.

Nervously, the girl slipped into the swampy field filled with invisible ditches while she was running away from the tornado.

The hardest part was finding all the vocab and thinking of what to write.

               Beach Education day
                Life-saving.

I had to find a partner and I choose Leah. It was my time to save hear… Ari said 3 2 1 go. Zoom I was sprinting. I sprinted Into the freezing cold water. Racing to save her out deep… because she was pretending to drown. I tend to trip over and face plate in the sand. It was not very pleasant. I get back up and keep sprinting to me here. But I can say I was not very fast when I was running. Finally, I got to here… then I clipped here up and struggled to get back to shore. When we finally made it. Ari said we had to wait for the slow pokes in the water to get out. Hary there out and we when over to Emma and Liam. They tort us how to sprint in the water without falling over. Hay it actually worked. We finally got done with that. Now we get free time. I was getting smashed by the huge wave that Where crashing down on me. Whistle! Ari said to get shore fast. Then I realized that we had to go. NOOOOOOO.

What I found hard was sprinting out to save my partner.
What I found fun was diving under the mega wave.
Do you want to save lives?

place value

we have been lerning about written form,
expanded form, place value, staded form
 and face value

moment in time

A moment in time.

We were just getting into Paihia. Everyone was getting more thrilled about seeing the NAVY wellington. I wasn't very excited. We finally got to the boat and I was a tiny bit delighted. Getting on the boat was freaky but I made it. We were walking up to the flight deck and the smell off-gas was not very pleasant but after a long time, it smelt better. We got up and I was getting so charged… but when the boat started I  was feeling anxious. We were getting further and further away from the wharf.  I Was so scared that I would fall off the boat into the freezing cold water.
